Ham pot pie with a slice gone

Holiday ham leftovers are amazing in pot pie; you can even use leftover smoked ham to make this dish! There is almost no wrong way to make a pot pie. The whole family looks forward to our leftover meals.

And this one knocked it out of the park! Now, I will admit to cheating in that I used store-bought pie crust instead of making a pie crust. However, they have always had an amazing flaky pie crust when baked.

Homemade Ham Pot Pie Recipe Ingredients:

  • Pie Crust– You can use store-bought or homemade, store-bought is my go-to for saving time, but if homemade pie crust is something you enjoy, it can be used with this recipe.
  • Cubed Ham– Use leftover crockpot ham, smoked ham, or store-bought diced ham to put in the pot pie.
  • Frozen Peas and Carrots
  • Cream of Potato– The little potatoes in this can add amazing flavor to the pot pie.
  • Cream of Celery– If celery isn’t a favorite, you can substitute it with cream of mushroom, cream of asparagus, or cream of chicken soup.
  • Salt and Black Pepper
  • Egg
  • Garlic Salt

How To Make Homemade Ham Pot Pie Recipe:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Grease your pie pan with a nonstick spray.

Lay one of your pie crusts or pie doughs on a greased pie plate. This will be the bottom crust. I used a Pyrex 9-inch pie plate.

In a bowl, crack your egg and use a fork to make a beaten egg.

Store Bought Pie crust with egg wash in pie pan

Use a pastry brush and brush the egg wash onto the entire pie crust in the pie dish.

Cube up your leftover ham or use store-bought ham cubes or cubed ham steak for the ham pie. (I used leftover Crockpot Ham (see the recipe -> here) to make my pot pie filling.)

Ham Pot Pie Filling In Bowl Mixed

In a large mixing bowl, mix your ham, peas and carrots, green onions, cream soups, and seasoning.

Ham Pot Pie Filling In Pot Pie Crust In pie Pan

Pour your pot pie creamy filling onto the pie crust in your pie dish.

Lay your second pie crust onto the top of the filled pie dish; you can use a rolling pin to stretch the crust if needed.

Crimp your pie crust onto the bottom pie crust around the edges of your dish. Be sure to seal the edges of the pie crust fully.

Cut with a big knife four slices into the top of the pie crust from the middle of the pie for venting purposes. Poke holes would work as well, but the slants work great for venting.

Homemade Ham Pot Pie Baking in Oven

Use your pastry brush and brush the entire surface of the top crust with the egg wash.

Place in your oven to bake. I set a foil-wrapped baking sheet underneath mine to make sure it caught anything that spilled out or boiled out. (Thankfully, nothing came out of ours did)

Bake for about 45 minutes to an hour at 350.

Then, turn your oven up to 395 for about 15 more minutes to golden brown the crust more.

What a great idea! I have made chicken pot pie so many times, but I love the smokiness from the ham. I will make this again for sure!
