Homemade Alfredo Sauce makes for the perfect fettuccine alfredo! The best part about homemade is that it is made with simple ingredients; trust me, I had no idea till a girlfriend told me!  Now, I am not sure I can return to bottled alfredo sauce.

Homemade Alfredo Sauce with broccili and bread

This was my first time making a homemade sauce. Chicken alfredo is a favorite of Kylie’s, and I wanted to pair it up with the Fettuccine Pasta from our first Wildgrain box! I knew she wanted a creamy sauce to pair with her favorite pasta, so I asked a girlfriend who makes her sauce for the best homemade alfredo sauce recipe. Thankfully, she loved it and said it was comparable to the Olive Garden Alfredo Sauce.

What Is Wildgrain?

Wild grain was founded to create clean and high-quality carbs! The recipes they use to focus on clean ingredients with artisanal processes that have essential nutrition benefits! They partner with small bakers and pasta makers all over the use. (Want to learn more, see my post -> here)

Frozen Wildgrain Sour Dough And Frozen Wildgrain Fettuccini

Homemade Alfredo Sauce Ingredients:

*I doubled this, but you could half it. I wanted to have extras for dipping my bread into and my broccoli as well.*

how to make homemade alfredo sauce

In a large skillet or medium saucepan over medium-low heat add your butter, heavy whipping cream, and cream cheese.

These are the main ingredients of your sauce. I sliced up the butter stick and the cream cheese cube to help it melt better. Be sure to melt the butter entirely and make a liquid sauce. (You can use heavy cream instead of whipping and unsalted or salted butter. This is a personal taste preference.

Whisk until everything has melted together while still over medium heat.

Pro-tip is to use a silicone whisk is terrific for this, it won’t scratch your nonstick pans!

Add the minced garlic, garlic powder, Italian season, salt, and pepper next to your sauce mixture. I prefer grinders to grind Pink Himalayan Sea Salt and fresh ground black pepper. You can use other versions of salt and pepper if you want.

Continue to whisk until everything becomes a liquid sauce.

Alfredo Sauce With The Cheese Added On Stove

Add in your shredded parmesan cheese and gouda cheese. I personally prefer to use fresh parmesan cheese wedges and gouda cheese wedges, which you can find in the deli and shred at home, I feel in recipes like this the cheese seems to melt smoothly and make a thicker sauce. You can skip Gouda and double up the Parmesan Cheese instead, or the Kraft kind in the container works as well.  Save some cheese for topping your pasta as well.

Bring the cheese sauce mixture to a simmer on medium-low heat and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Keep stirring with your whisk so if your pan has hot spots, it doesn’t stick to the pan. This turns into a creamy white sauce, aka creamy alfredo sauce.

Remove a portion of the homemade alfredo sauce to have as a dipping sauce for the bread and broccoli.

  1. Sounds yummy, however, there is cream cheese listed in the instructions but not in either posting of the ingredients? How much is needed?
