Homemade Alfredo Sauce makes for the perfect fettuccine alfredo! The best part about homemade is that it is made with simple ingredients; trust me I had no idea till a girlfriend told me! Now I am not sure I can go back to bottled alfredo sauce again.

This was my first time making a homemade sauce, chicken alfredo is a favorite of Kylie’s and I wanted to pair it up with the Fettuccine Pasta from our first Wildgrain box! I knew she wanted a creamy sauce to pair with her favorite pasta so I asked a girlfriend who makes her own sauce for what she thought was the best homemade alfredo sauce recipe. Thankfully she loved it and said it was comparable to the Olive Garden Alfredo Sauce.

how to make homemade alfredo sauce
In a large skillet or medium saucepan over medium-low heat add your butter, heavy whipping cream, and cream cheese. These are the main ingredients of your sauce. I did slice up the stick of butter and the cube of cream cheese to help it melt better. Be sure to melt the butter completely and make a liquid sauce. (You can use heavy cream instead of whipping cream, and unsalted butter or salted butter. This is a personal taste preference.
Whisk until everything has melted together while still over medium heat.
Pro-tip is to use a silicone whisk is terrific for this, it won’t scratch your nonstick pans!
Add the minced garlic, garlic powder, Italian season, salt, and pepper next to your sauce mixture. I prefer to use grinders to grind Pink Himalayan Sea Salt and fresh ground black pepper. You can use other versions of salt and pepper if you want.
Continue to whisk until everything becomes a liquid sauce.

Add in your shredded parmesan cheese and gouda cheese. I personally prefer to use fresh parmesan cheese wedges and gouda cheese wedges, which you can find in the deli and shred at home, I feel in recipes like this the cheese seems to melt smoothly and make a thicker sauce. You can skip Gouda and double up the Parmesan Cheese instead, or the Kraft kind in the container works as well. Save some cheese for topping your pasta as well.
Bring the cheese sauce mixture to a simmer on medium-low heat and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Keep stirring with your whisk so if your pan has hot spots, it doesn’t stick to the pan. This turns into a creamy white sauce, aka creamy alfredo sauce.
Remove a portion of the homemade alfredo sauce to have as a dipping sauce for the bread and broccoli.
