You can often find potatoes on markdown, so it’s the perfect way to make a frugal dinner. We had some frozen sausage that we had made on vacation in Montana with our family to chop up into the soup. This soup is so easy to change up that you can almost make it different every time you make it by simply changing up the spices.
Crockpot Sausage Potato Soup Recipe Ingredients:
- Potato– Any potato will work, russets potatoes are what I have used most often in this recipe, but gold potatoes and red potatoes will work too.
- Onion– I have used white onion, red onion, and yellow onion, and they have all turned out great. You can also use onion powder or minced garlic as well.
- Butter
- Chicken Bouillon Base
- Parsley Leaves
- Water
- Sausage– Any rope sausage will work for this recipe
- Milk
- Flour
- Shredded Cheese
- Optional Velveeta cheese

How To Make slow cooker Sausage Potato Soup:
You can use any size crockpot to make this in, I recommend a 6 Quart crockpot or 8 Quart Crockpot to make this in.
Peel and cube up potatoes for your soup, you can leave the peels but my kids prefer no peels.
Spray your Crockpot with non-stick spray or line it with a crockpot liner.
Put in potato, onions, butter, bouillon (I use Better Than Bouillon Organic Chicken Base for ours), parsley, and water.

Cook on low at the 3-hour mark I put the sausage into the soup.
1/2 hour to an hour before serving add milk and flour mixture to the soup.
After the soup thickens it is ready to serve
Top with cheese and enjoy!!

Toppings for crockpot sausage potato soup

How to store leftover crockpot potato sausage soup
Allow the leftover soup to cool off and store it in an airtight container. This can be stored in the fridge for three to five days after cooking. To freeze, move to an airtight container and store it for up to three months in the freezer.
Storing leftovers properly requires the right tools! My preferred storage method is if the leftovers can be sealed in a food saver. If not, then an air-tight container or Ziploc bag for the fridge is the way I go. The airtight container or a freezer Ziploc bag are the next best bet for freezing the leftovers. I also use a food scale to measure portions into serving sizes.

Hi I would love to try this recipe but don’t see what kind and how much sausage to use.
You can use any sausage rope. We had homemade sausage on hand so that is what I used. Hope that helps!
Hi I would love to try this recipe but don’t see what kind and how much sausage to use.
You can use homemade sausage or any store-bought rope sausage.
What are the WW points like on this soup? Looks yummy and frugal
Is the recipe suppose to read 1/2 hr to 1 hr before serving, add milk and flour mix? what is the flour mix?
How much chicken base do you use?
This looks yummy! I’d try it with some veggie sausage.
My hubby will love this combination of flavors! Fall is in the air! Thanks for sharing!
I wish instructions and measurements were more accurate. I’ve got this in the crockpot, but ingredients are iffy. How much bouillon? How much sausage? How much cheese? Would not have tried this, but husband saw it and wanted it. Please edit and add specifics.
