This easy Sausage Rice Skillet Dinner is one of those perfect weeknight dinner recipes. I love finding recipes that my kids can help to make or, in this case, almost make on their own.  I loved that Kylie could jump right into the kitchen with me to make this.

Sausage and rice skillet dinner

This summer, she has stepped up a lot with helping around the house, so when she asked to help cook a family dinner, who was I to say no?? Since she wanted to take the lead, I wanted to ensure it was pretty easy. Plus, we got to talk about a lot of kitchen basics to help her learn as well. We agreed on an easy sausage rice skillet dinner. I mean, how much more manageable than only four ingredients can we get??

Easy Sausage and Rice Skillet Dinner ingredients on cutting board

Sausage Rice Skillet Dinner Ingredients:

  • Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice Long Grain– Any microwave rice pouch or microwave-ready rice will work. It takes out the guesswork for teens on making rice on the stovetop.
  • Red Pepper
  • Olive Oil
  • Yellow Onion
  • Sausage Ropes

How TO Make Easy Sausage Rice Skillet:

Start out by prepping your vegetables and deseed the red pepper.

Chop your sausage into slices, a bit thinner than an inch.

Rope sausage cooking with onions and peppers

Put a smidge of olive oil in your pan and turn it on medium-low heat.

Place your sausage, onion, and peppers in the pan and let them start to saute.

Be sure to stir the sausage and vegetables often.

Tear a two-inch slit in your Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice Long Grain and microwave it for 90 seconds standing up.

Repeat this process with the second bag.

Dump the cooked rice into the pan and continue to let the rice cook together with the sausage.

Stir often and serve when the sausage is warmed up.

Sausage and rice is a favorite around here! I love that she’s excited to help. My kids are 6 & 9 and are starting to be interested in cooking. Before it was just baking. Good luck with the tween years! Thanks for the tasty recipe!
