Easy chicken casserole recipes are my go to when our family calendar is filled with practices, homework, and everything in between. These casserole recipes are the perfect answer to that never-ending question: “What’s for dinner?” Being able to toss everything into a pan and cook in the oven is the perfect solution to dinner, and chicken is full of protein, so it’s filling as well.

I make all of these chicken casseroles in my own kitchen, and they’re in my regular rotation. Some of these recipes are new protein packed recipes using protein pasta and Greek yogurt, but the comfort food bakes are still in rotation for years. Each one is real, cozy family food that happens to keep you full. Now that most of my children are adults, they make them at home.
Why Chicken Casseroles Work for Busy Families
- One pan, fewer dishes.
- Make-ahead friendly. You can assemble most earlier in the day and bake when you walk in the door.
- Leftovers that actually reheat well. Perfect for lunches and meal prep.
- Picky eater approved and whole family approved!

Protein-Packed Chicken Casseroles
These bakes bring 20 grams of protein or more per serving, so they’re filling enough to carry you through the evening without anyone at the table feeling like they’re eating “healthy food.”

Classic Comfort Chicken Casseroles
These are the cozy, old-fashioned bakes that taste like a hug. Pair them with a big veggie side or salad to round out the plate.

Tips for Easier Chicken Casseroles
- Keep shredded chicken on hand. Almost every recipe here starts with cooked chicken. Making a large batch of Crock Pot Shredded Chicken on the weekend and freeze it in portions. Rotisserie or canned chicken works in a pinch too.
- Swap in protein pasta. Any pasta-based casserole can use protein pasta for an easy protein boost. Just know it’s a thirsty pasta, so you may need a little extra liquid.
- Assemble ahead. Build the casserole earlier in the day, cover, refrigerate, and add a few extra minutes to the bake time.
What to Serve With Chicken Casseroles
A simple veggie or salad balances out a cheesy casserole perfectly. A few of my favorites:
- Homemade Chicken Caesar Salad
- Air Fryer Broccoli
- Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts
- Oven Roasted Green Beans
- Cheesy Garlic Pull-Apart Bread
How to Store and Reheat Chicken Casseroles
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm the whole dish in a 350 degree oven until heated through. For pasta bakes, a small splash of broth or water helps loosen the sauce. The Chicken Enchilada Bake and Chicken Pot Pie Casserole both freeze well for up to 3 months.
