We love Taco Tuesday night at my house! However, we do get tired of tacos, so why not try a Taco Tuesday casserole?? As a busy mom, I love how easy this is to make up and the kids loved it! The kids love cheesy and pasta recipes, so I had faith this recipe would be an instant hit with them! This taco twist recipe is one that my mom gave to me that she made back when I was in high school 20 plus years ago!
taco twist recipe Ingredients:
- Rotini Noodles
- Hamburger– This will be cooked and drained of grease before going into the casserole
- Tomato Sauce
- Sour Cream
- Cheese
- Taco Seasoning– You can use a store-bought container, a taco seasoning packet, or homemade taco seasoning to make this recipe.
- Nacho Flavored Tortilla Chips

How To Make Taco Twist Casserole:
Preheat your oven to 350.
Start by boiling water for the noodles and start browning your hamburger. I used precooked and frozen ground beef so all I had to do was thaw it.

Take a lot of prep work out of weeknight dinners and precook and freeze your cooked ground beef! Pull and defrost the ground beef to put in recipes like this for an easy weeknight dinner! (If you aren’t sure how to best do this, check out Freezing Cooked Ground Beef)
Drain grease from the hamburger when cooked, and then add tomato sauce and taco seasoning to a pan. (I use my own taco seasoning grab the recipe -> here)
After your noodles are done drain them and put them back into the pot.

In the noodle, pan add sour cream and 1/2 cup of Kraft Shredded Cheddar Cheese and mix until Kraft Shredded Cheddar Cheese is melted.
In a 9X13 pan, spray with nonstick and spread out the noodle mixture.
Pour the meat sauce mixture over the noodles in the casserole pans.

Top with remain cheese, you can add more if you want.
Bake for about 30 minutes.
Remove the casserole pan and top with nacho cheese tortilla chips after done if you want. (I did mine before baking and they were browning so do it after)
Taco Twist Casserole is also the perfect casserole to whip up for the big game! The chips are perfect for scooping up the casserole on them!

The recipe sounds wonderful, but your commentary is of poor quality due to the incorrect use of punctuation. Every time you write a new blog entry, you should ask yourself how your high school English teacher would grade it, and then correct it so that you feel confident she’d give you a good grade. PS: Please omit the phrase “edited by” from your bio. You may very well be a SAHM, a soccer coach, and a Girl Scout troop leader, but you are by no means an editor. I speak from 30 years of experience in the profession.

I have never commented on a comment before, but I feel compelled to in this case. You may have 30 years of experience in the editing profession, but you’re comment exhibits very few people skills. The blog is about the recipe. Negative, hurtful comments about any other aspect should be kept to yourself. This should be a bully-free zone.
Karen says
This is a recipe Lizzie, comment on that, and don’t be so rude.
Randy says
Karen…I love this recipe and enjoyed your commentary.
Lizzie…are you always so critical of a website that is meant to be fun, full of wonderful receipes and experiences? Seems to me that your just searching to be critical.
Shona says
Whoah, Lizzie. Get over yourself. Not cool. Not necessary. Being a mean girl is so high school. Edit yourself.
I’m going to be making this recipe tomorrow. Looks delicious!
W Harris says
Love the recipe! Lizzie don’t be a Karen!
Glo says
I cannot understand how you or anyone can be so rude. Are you kidding?? Shame on you. Enjoy the recipes or don’t. Comment only about the recipe!
Fareeha says
looks like a great idea.. yummy
Ann says
Patty, your recipe is one that I plan to use when the family comes to visit. I was a teacher for 35 years and I enjoy getting new recipes and think that Lizzie needs to get a life. Her comment was downright rude and unacceptable.
Ann says
I totally agree!
Stephanie says
I’m definitely going to be trying this recipe. I normally make soft tacos and after awhile, it gets boring. This will be a nice way to spruce up things.
As for Lizzie, her comments could have been given in a much more productive manner. Don’t let it bother you. Everyone will find something to complain about. To Lizzie herself: While I appreciate the dedication you give to your job, sometimes a nice criticism is much more well received than something given in a hateful manner. Congratulations on 30 years in your career, good job! I hope you have many more years doing something you love.
Cathy says
Recipe looks yummy! After you put it all together, you bake at 350 for 5 – 10 minutes?

I’m sorry I didn’t see where it says how long to cook the casserole. Can anyone help please? Sounds great I can’t wait to try . Thank you.

My sisters and I have been trying to get a taco Tuesday setup for a while now. I’ll add this one to our to-do list!

Cook Time 30 minutes+

This is a great recipe for busy families. I make 2 pounds of taco meat, instead of one pound, for soft tacos. While the meat is cooking I boil the pasta. After dinner I put this Taco Twist casserole together and place it in the refrigerator. A few days later just pull it out and heat in oven. Dinner is essentially made, just add a vegetable side dish. Sometimes I add a can of beans to the taco meat which stretches the meat even further, especially when feeding hungry boys.
Joanne says
This sounds delicious! We have Taco Tuesdays at least once a month and this would make a fun variation. Thanks for sharing. Pinned

I’m sorry Lizzie feels the need to be so selfish and full of herself. It’s ok to be critical without being downright rude. I can only imagine how she treated her students. Not a good visual for me.
My dad is a huge taco fan. it’s his absolute favorite. I’m going to try this on him and see what the verdict is. It may become a staple in the food rotation. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Brenda says
Hey !!!!! I just saw in the 2nd set of directions the length of time you bake it for is 30 Minutes !!! and the recipe looks great! I look forward to giving this a try !!!!

I am making this now. It smells great. I can’t wait to try it. I added jalapeños to mine.
