A Note From Jenny

When starting any healthy lifestyle, consult a doctor to address any personal health concerns. Some things can only be addressed medically and by a professional. Blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and hormones checked at a physical before starting and at least once a year, as these all can affect an active lifestyle.

With so many different programs, such as Weight Watchers, Keto, and macros, it can be hard to know what to pick. (If you’re interested in Weight Watchers, you can sign up -> here and sign up for $10/month for 10 months.)

I personally use the app Myfitnesspal to track my food.  I use macros and focus on High Protein (calories, fat, protein, and carbohydrates) and rotate through cuts and maintenance calories. (Use a calculator like this -> here)  . I did WW for years, but now that I am more maintenance, with cuts throughout the year, and focusing on mobility with strength training. There is no right or wrong answer, as all bodies are different.

Tools For Making Proffee

You don’t need to get crazy with specialty tools, but there are a few things that you’ll want to have on hand.

Milk Frother– A milk frother is the key to achieving that creamy, café-quality texture in your proffee. You can now find these small handheld frothers in stores and online. You can get fancy with electric models offering additional features like temperature control and different froth settings. But basic frothers, I have the Zulay Kitchen Milk Frother Wand, which allows you to create both hot and cold froth with minimal effort.  You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here!

Food Scale– You should know why a food scale is essential for tracking your points, but these scales also work for protein powders, coffee, and espresso. The Ozeri Food Scale is one of my favorite to use for measuring food and liquids. You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here!

Stylish Tumbler– Enjoying your proffee in a chic, functional tumbler enhances the experience, especially when you’re on the go. A 40-ounce glass tumbler with a straw and lid is a popular choice, with Starbucks tumbler, and even Stanley’s! You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here, or Etsy-> here!

Equipping your kitchen with these tools not only simplifies the coffee-making process but also elevates your daily ritual, making each cup a delightful experience. But let’s also face it: drinking out of cute cups makes everything better!

How Do You Make A Proffee Recipe?

Crafting a delicious proffee is straightforward; you can easily customize it to your taste preferences. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making both iced and hot proffee:

How To Make Iced Proffee

Prepare Your Coffee Base:

  • Fill a glass with ice cubes like you would for iced coffee.
  • Pour in 1 cup of cold brew or cooled brewed coffee over the ice.

Add Protein:

  • Select a ready-to-drink protein shake in your preferred flavor (such as vanilla, chocolate, or caramel).
  • Pour the protein shake into the glass with the coffee, maintaining a 1:1 ratio for a balanced flavor.

Mix and Enjoy:

  • Stir the mixture thoroughly to combine the coffee and protein shake.
    • Pro-tip: the milk frother is an easy and fast way to do this
  • Optionally, enhance your proffee with sugar-free syrups or a dollop of sugar-free whipped topping for added flavor and texture.

How To Make Hot Proffee

Brew Your Coffee- I prepare 1 cup of hot brewed coffee with my Keurig.

Combine with Protein: Mix three tablespoons of protein powder in a separate container with 1/4 cup of milk or a non-dairy alternative. Use a milk frother to whisk the mixture until smooth and frothy. You can do this step with a ready-to-drink shake as well.

Blend and Serve: Pour the frothy protein mixture into your hot coffee while stirring continuously to ensure a smooth blend. Customize your hot proffee with optional add-ins like sugar-free syrups or a sprinkle of cinnamon to suit your taste.

Tips For The Perfect Proffee:

  • Protein Selection: Choose protein shakes or powders that blend well and complement the flavor of your coffee. Whey protein is known for its smooth mixing properties, while plant-based proteins may have a grainier texture.
  • Temperature Considerations: When making hot proffee, be cautious as some protein powders can clump when mixed with hot liquids. To prevent this, dissolve the protein powder in a small amount of cool water or milk before adding it to your hot coffee.
  • Flavor Enhancements: Experiment with spices like cinnamon or turmeric to add antioxidants and enhance the flavor of your proffee.

Which Protein Shakes Should I Use In Protein Coffees?

Incorporating protein shakes into your coffee—what’s affectionately known as “proffee”—is a convenient and delicious way to boost your protein intake, especially for those with busy mornings or specific dietary goals… but which one should you choose?

  • Equate/Members Mark– 2 points with 30 grams of protein!  You can buy them on Amazon -> here or Walmart -> here!
  • Pure Protein 1 point 30 grams of protein  You can buy them on Amazon -> here, or Walmart -> here!
  • Premier Protein– 2 points with 30 grams of protein! You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here!
  • Orgain– 2 points with 30 grams of protein! (They do have some with less protein, so be sure to watch what you are buying) You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here!
  • Fairlife– 3 points with 30 grams of protein! (They do have some with less protein, so be sure to watch what you are buying) You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here!
  • Muscle Milk- 2 points with 32 grams of protein! You can buy them on Amazon -> here, Walmart -> here, or Target-> here!

Can I Use Protein Powder Instead of Protein Shakes?

Absolutely, adding protein powder to your coffee is a fantastic way to boost your protein intake while enjoying your daily brew. This method is cost-effective and provides greater control over ingredients, making it a popular choice for many. Some favored options include Pure Protein and Optimum Nutrition, known for their smooth blending and complementary flavors.

How to Mix Protein Powder into Your Coffee:

Choose Your Protein Powder: Select a protein powder that suits your taste and dietary preferences. Flavors like unflavored, chocolate, or vanilla protein powder are commonly used.

Mix with Cool Liquid First: To prevent clumping, dissolve the protein powder in a small amount of cool water or milk, stirring until smooth.

Combine with Coffee: Slowly pour your hot coffee into the protein mixture while stirring continuously to ensure a smooth blend.

Serve and enjoy your protein-infused coffee hot, or pour it over ice for a refreshing iced proffee.

Tips:

  • Blending: Using a blender or milk frother can help achieve a smoother consistency.
  • Temperature: Be cautious with very hot liquids, as high temperatures can cause some protein powders to clump.
  • Customization: Feel free to add sugar-free syrups or creamers to enhance the flavor while keeping it Weight Watchers-friendly.

What Syrups To Use In Proffees

Enhancing your proffee with sugar-free syrups is a delightful way to add flavor without extra calories or compromising your Weight Watchers goals. (bonus get the pumps for the bottles makes measuring easy -> here on amazon) Here are some popular options to consider:

Just Remember:

  • Moderation: While these syrups are sugar-free, don’t over do it! Some brands still have calories and other considerations to look at.
  • Compatibility: Use flavors that go together. Raspberry in your coffee may not be the best idea, but a hazelnut-vanilla combination would be great!
