This Crockpot Cube Steak And Gravy Recipe is such an easy dinner! Now I will admit I had never made a cube steak or had boughten one.  We got a big beef package from our local butcher, and there were quite a few cube steaks in it—nothing like having it on hand to figure out some recipes.

Now I did jump on Pinterest, and some of the recipes using cubed steak…. looked way too complicated!  My family loves gravy and rice, so I opted to start with this recipe as our first go. Thankfully it turned out fabulous and will be made again next month; I am adding some onions.

Crockpot Cube Steak And Gravy Recipe Ingredients:

  • Cube Steak-You could substitute with ground beef, but these also go on markdown at the grocery store.
  • Beef Broth– Canned beef broth will work; I prefer to use Better than Boullion to make my broths.
  • Cream of Mushroom– I am tempted to make this with cream of potato next time, I think the potato flavoring would be excellent.
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Onion Soup Mix– I tend to keep a couple of these packets in my cabinet for recipes like this.
  • Au Ju Gravy– You can buy either container in bulk or packets, I don’t make gravy often enough to buy those so I buy the packets.

Crockpot Cube Steak And Gravy Recipe Directions:

Spray your crockpot with a nonstick spray or line it with a crockpot liner.

On a plate layout, your cube steak and pepper and very lightly salt if you want. I went easy on the salt since the French onion soup mix, and the gravy would have salt in them.

*You could salt these and cover them in flour and lightly brown them in a frying pan if you want to but I love to put things in my crockpot and just let it cook.  I opted not to do that step but it could add some flavor to your steaks*

Now I make my broth with Better Than Boullion Beef base. I made up two cups in a smaller Pyrex measuring cup. Now, I love my Pyrex measuring cups, I used my 8-cup Pyrex to mix everything together.

In a large bowl, the large Pyrex measuring cup, combines the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, Au Ju gravy mix, and french onion soup mix all together.

Turn your crockpot on low and lay your steaks out on the bottom.  I did make this in my new 8-quart Crock-Pot and was the first time I had used it.  I do have to say I miss my old trusty but when the lid shattered it was a sad day.

Pour your mixture over the steaks and cover.

Cook on low for at least four hours.  I did stir mine a couple of times once the steak had cooked to allow the gravy mixture to completely cover the steaks.

Now I used my Pampered Chef Mix N Chop to break up the meat into the gravy.  My kids thought it was ground beef so there were no complaints and they ate all their dinner!

Serve with a side and enjoy!!

You can also top it with a fried egg to make it like a Loco Moco you can order in Hawaii!

how to store and reheat leftover cube steak and gravy

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. To reheat either use the microwave or a small pan on the stove to reheat.

Tips For Cooking Crockpot Cube Steak And Gravy:

  • To thicken the gravy use cornstarch and water in a small pan on the stove after everything is done cooking.
  • You can use onion gravy, mushroom gravy, brown gravy, or any gravy with a darker beef base
  • Also, mushrooms, either fresh mushrooms or canned mushrooms, onions, or garlic are perfect to add in for more flavor as well.  I topped mine with some green onion.

This is a great recipe, but DO NOT overcook it, or you will have mush. This recipe also works great in the oven.
