Now I know what you are thinking… What to serve with mashed potatoes?? Sometimes I pick up too many potatoes, make too many mashed potatoes, or there was a killer deal on potatoes. So in those cases, I plan around the side dish instead of the main dish.

Potatoes are always a safe side for dinner if your kids are anything like mine. Bonus points, even now, as teenagers, they will try new foods if they can dip the new food into mashed potatoes for the first time. There were times when the kids were younger, they ate just mashed potatoes when they were little; I learned to pick my battles some nights.

Toppings For Mashed Potatoes
Gravy– There is no wrong gravy to serve with mashed potatoes; your choice may depend on what is being helped alongside it. You can do jarred gravy, from-scratch gravy, or powdered packet gravy. My go-to is almost always jarred turkey gravy, but you can also do brown gravy, chicken gravy, pork gravy, or white country gravy.
Cheese– Shredded cheese is one of my favorites on mashed potatoes, but you can also use a cheese sauce or melted cheese.
Meats– Diced bacon is one of my favorites to mix into my mashed potatoes; pro tip add cheese too, but you can also add crumbled sausage or Popcorn chicken.
