Sugar Cookies are the perfect treat to leave for Santa and a fun Christmas cookie to make as well! With homemade frosting and sprinkles, you can’t go wrong! Making cookies for Santa is such a fun tradition for the holidays!
Sugar Cookie Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 Cups Butter Softened
- 2 Cup Sugar
- 4 Eggs
- 1 Tspn Vanilla
- 5 Cup Flour
- 2 Tspn Baking Powder
- 1 Tspn Salt
Homemade Frosting Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Shortening
- 4 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tsp Butter Flavoring
- 1/4 Tsp Clear Vanilla Extract (or use regular Vanilla Extract this has never affected mine)
- 4-6 Tbsp Heavy Whipping Cream (Or I use 2% milk)
- Food Coloring

How To Make Sugar Cookies:
In a large bowl (I use my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer) cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
Next, add the eggs and vanilla allowing it to beat until smooth.
Slowly add to the mixer your flour, baking powder, and salt.
Allow the dough to mix until it is all the same consistency.
Spread your dough out onto plates, I use dinner plates and chill your dough in the fridge for at least one hour (I tend to leave the dough overnight in the fridge)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Roll out your dough onto a floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick using a rolling pin.
Use cookie cutters to cut your shapes.

Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes in your preheated oven.
Place on baker racks and allow them to cool completely before frosting.
How To Make Homemade Frosting For Sugar Cookies:
Start with all the ingredients listed below in a bowl but the milk.
Add in about 4 tbsp of the milk and start to mix with a handheld mixer, as the frosting mixes you can add more milk to make the frosting thinner.
Dish out into bowls and then mix in food coloring.
Bella loves the coloring of the frosting! I let the kids frost all the cookies and it’s fun to see what they come up with for color combinations and decorations!!
