Travel is hard when you are a parent with multiple kids. There is time off from work, the cost of travel, food, gas, and of course the effort to go on the trip!!! Now you may remember from my recent Instant Pot Recipes that I had gone to Seaside, Oregon with a girlfriend and our kids!! We were able to save a ton with cooking our meals there and even more since we had split the cost of where we were staying. I loved being able to Visit Seaside, Oregon on a Budget for our mid-winter break this year! (I have included links to some great products that I have bought on my own and love. You can buy them as well through my online sales links).
A beach trip can add up really fast if you aren’t going in with a plan on how to spend money while on the vacation. Now, it’s not just the parents that have to be aware of the budget, so do the kids. Each kid was told no eating out, everyone will get one hoodie, and nothing else. Thankfully, my kids are older, so it’s a lot easier to explain the boundaries and how we were only able to go if we stuck on a budget and it worked out great! Now we can’t wait till our next trip to Seaside, Or!
Tips To Visit Seaside Oregon on a Budget:
Plan Out Your Meals: We were lucky to have a kitchen in the condo so we planned out a menu and took some backups (i.e. dry cereal, peanut butter, and bread, etc.). If you are planning to eat out, be sure to pull up restaurants online before heading to Seaside. This will help you plan out how much to budget for eating out. Even if your hotel doesn’t have a kitchen, a Crockpot or Instant Pot will make meals easy! I just take home the dirty appliance and make a “dump it all in and cook” meal A good cooler goes a long way for storing your dairy, snacks, drinks, and more.
Shop Around For Hotel Deals: There is a lot of great deals to be had on hotels in Seaside, OR. My friend’s mom has a condo, so we were able to stay at the condos right on the circle. It was a killer deal for us. Other times I have gone, we stayed at Motel 6, and since we only slept in the room, it wasn’t that big of a deal. Plus, use sites like Topcashback (here) and Ebates (here) to earn a refund!! I like to book thru Hotels.com to earn free nights in addition to their savings as well!! If you can find a place with a kitchen you can save even more.
Buy Your Beach Gear Ahead Of Time: Pick up sand buckets, shovels, kits, swimsuits, etc. all at home before taking off. The shops on the strip will be more expensive and even though there is a Dollar Tree in Warrenton, I promise that’s not something you’ll want to rely on. So, plan ahead and shop at home (or take advantage of last year’s markdowns if you were able to shop then).
Shop Around: Now, this may not be in your budget, but we knew everyone would be going home with a new hoodie (we wear these all year round with it being rainy constantly in Washington). We took the time to check out all the shops before we picked out our souvenirs. It worked out great and we also had a blast window shopping for what we wanted.
Check Out Candyman: Seriously, this was my kids’ favorite stop of the whole trip! I had been here before and had forgotten all about it until my girlfriend, Jenn, said it was a stop they never skipped. Well now, Candyman has been added to our must stop for every trip due to its cheap ice cream cones and tasty treats!! The kids spun the wheel to get a free piece of taffy. There are other prizes you can win on the wheel, but we all won taffy. See more about Candyman ->here.
