It seems like just yesterday I was welcoming my 6lb 14oz little baby girl into the world. But then reality hits and I realize Kylie is an amazing beautiful 11 year old!! With aging, our daily routines and hygiene needs change, and I am no longer the one constantly taking care of her. She now does all of this on her own. As she has grown into a tween, she has become very aware of the products that she uses and what affects the environment! With today being Earth day and all the talking in school about the environment this has been even more important to her.
Personal Hygiene Tips For Tweens:
Skin Care- I told Kylie that making sure you clean the sweat and bacteria off of your skin to have healthy skin is important. We talked about how instead of just showering when you think you are dirty, we are addressing the need to shower daily for a healthy hygiene routine.
Hair Care- I told her to make sure you wash your hair often, especially after working out and getting sweaty. Also, having well combed and maintained hair allows you to put your best foot forward. We played a game of what ifs with how people may perceive you based off of your look and appearance.
Body Odor- With Kylie starting to run track, I didn’t want her to find out about body odor the hard way. We talked about how since she was older, it is important to make sure she uses deodorant, how often to apply it, especially if she is going to be psychically active. She loved the packaging on her Wicked Cool! Deodorant, the color matches her personality well! Plus she is so excited that it is made with natural products making it better for the Earth as well without harmful chemicals. Plus if you can’t find this at Target you can also order the multipacks off Amazon! Let’s face it one stick of deodorant doesn’t cut it you need extras for a bag, sports bag, and gym class.
Oral Hygiene- I am lucky with Kylie since she has had braces for over a year, now a retainer, she has always had great oral hygiene. However, during Earth Day talks at school, the discussion of chemicals in products came up. They talked about how chemicals can affect the health of your teeth as well as have an impact on the environment. Kylie was asking for a better option for her toothpaste to help the health of her enamel. It is not much of a secret that I have a Target shopping problem, so I was excited when I went there to shop and saw the store had a cartwheel offer for Tom’s of Maine, perfect timing with today being Earth day! I was able to save 10% on top of the great sale that was going on. The Tom’s Of Maine Made to Matter Collection is only available at Target; it includes Tom’s of Main Luminous White Toothpaste, Wicked Cool! Deodorant, and North Woods Antiperspirant. I love that Kylie picked a natural whitening toothpaste that is safe for the enamel on her teeth. The Wicked Cool! Deodorant is the first natural deodorant made just for boys and girls, providing 24-hour odor protection. Plus, it is free of aluminum, parabens, and artificial fragrances. Kylie was excited that a natural brand makes products she needs and now she is brainstorming other ways we can help to improve our life to better the earth. I can’t wait to hear what other Earth day ideas she learns at school today!!
