Isn’t it funny how, as moms, we can give mom’s advice to each other or even our own kids, but then not follow it ourselves? I know, for myself, it is easy for me to tell other moms to make sure they take care of themselves. I also tell the kids to eat right. But when it comes to me, that advice seems to go right out the window.
Us moms all know the struggle of this. Take this past weekend. My son Michael had an out of town soccer tournament. My weekend was summarized into driving from hotel to the field, watching the game, and back again, plus taking care of the girls, his gear, and squeezing in work when I could. So much easier to hit a drive-thru than think of anything else, right? I am so relieved I planned ahead and had a stash of the Premier Protein shakes on hand, so when I got hungry I didn’t hit the food trucks or a drive-thru!! With only 2 smart points per shake and 30 grams of protein, the shake kept me going while we were running around like crazy! I mean, seriously, the wagon is a lot heavier than it looks!!
Some Healthy Tips For Soccer Moms:
1. Plan Ahead: Look at the game schedule, then plan for the worst-case scenario. This was the first tournament where we stayed in a hotel. Plan ahead for snacks, meals, drinks, etc. We ended up stopping at a store and picking up groceries for meals the day of finals because I didn’t think about what we would do it the team made it that far. Throwing extra snacks and some Premier Protein in the cooler really helps to avoid naughty foods at the concession stand.

2. Pack Comfy Shoes: You have no idea how much walking you may be doing, especially if your soccer player leaves a cleat in the car (Don’t ask! It happened to me). Sometimes fields change or it’s a hike to the portable toilets. Either way, you don’t want to have blisters after the game because you had on the wrong shoes. Plus when you are jumping up and down cheering, you will appreciate a comfortable shoe even more.

3. Sleep: You have no idea how nerve wrecking these games can be!! Be sure you and your athlete get plenty of sleep. Our coach limited the kids’ pool time to help us, parents, make sure the boys’ bodies didn’t get too tired. Most times, the coach will help you stress healthy habits to your athlete, so be sure to follow the advice. It’s important for parents too
4. Hydrate and Wear Lip Balm: Your voice will go fast and your lips will chap from all the cheering you do. Being prepared for these things will help to protect your voice and lips for the long haul.
5. Enjoy The Game: I get caught up mad texting grandma or Michael’s dad updates that I forget to watch the game. I try to only pull out the phone as our team scores. Letting yourself get caught up in cheering on your child is a ton of fun, especially without the distractions of “outside” the soccer world.
