Homemade Play Dough is so easy!! Making kid activity kits is also the perfect way to entertain little ones! They work great for family gatherings, birthday parties, or rainy days. The colorful play dough was the biggest hit, and it was safe if the kids decided to try it.

I know the holiday dinners might still be a little ways off, but as a planner, I’m already starting to map everything out! With the kids off school in October, we went shopping and gathered all our supplies. They even helped pick out goodies for their cousins, making them even more excited for the next family gathering!

Now for the fun part: what we picked to stuff our kits with! The kids went a bit crazy, but I know they are excited to share these with their cousins, and we will reuse these outside of the holidays, so that’s a win for this mom!

Now, onto the homemade playdough! I had never made it before, but Kylie brought home a recipe, and Isabella couldn’t wait to dive in. We had so much fun making the activity kits that we knew this had to go in them. This was our practice run, so we can whip up a fresh batch, and we will make a fresh batch for thanksgiving!

How To Make Homemade Playdough
Mix everything but the Kool-Aid packets into a pot.
Next mix the ingredients well in the post.
Once well mixed, mix in the Kool-Aid packet. The mixture will look funky, but that is entirely normal.

Place the pot onto your stove burner at about a medium-high heat.
If the kids are younger, this part will be more challenging for them to do, so be sure to know your child’s skill level.
The dough will thicken up as it cooks, and the play dough will smooth out as it cooks up; just keep stirring!
We used a bamboo spoon to flip the dough around in the pot while cooking and to scratch the pans.

Put your playdough on a plate to cool off before playing with or storing it.

Separate and store! We cut the balls in half and put them in the quart storage bags for the activity kits.

Storing Homemade Playdough
You can store this in a bag or an airtight container. It stays in good shape for at least five days as long as it is sealed.
