Are you ready for it?? The holidays are coming… In our house, that means lots of family gatherings and of course lots of kids. Now when we have a large get together it can be interesting getting all the food at the table at a time and keeping kids at happy at the same time. I know we are a bit of a way out time-wise from the actual holiday dinners, but I am a planner so we are starting to plan these out now! The kids had a break from school in October so we went shopping to pick up all of our supplies. They also got to help pick out goodies for their cousins, so they can’t wait for the next family gathering.
We found the most important part at Walmart, large Ziploc® brand containers, and Ziploc® brand bags in Sandwich and Quart size. I know what works and what doesn’t work. Add to that the knowledge of how used and abused the Ziploc® brand containers will be, they need to really hold up. Plus, look at how these lids stack up for easy storage! There is no such thing as too many Ziploc® brand bags at the holiday time, I can’t wait to use the holiday printed bags and containers for our treats!

Now for the fun part: what we picked to stuff our kits with! The kids went a bit crazy, but I know they are excited to share these with their cousins, and we will reuse these outside of the holidays, so that’s a win for this mom!
Kid Table Activity Kits Content Ideas:
- Coloring books
- Crayons
- Card games
- Slinkies
- Bubbles
- Word searches
- Travel Games
- Homemade Playdough
We did take some liberties with our kits and kid proofed them a bit. I took all the crayons out into Ziploc® brand sandwich bags and put bubbles into them as well. That way, the kids could see the colors instantly and bubbles were contained. And, that would mean less garbage during the dinners from kids opening the packages.
Now to the homemade playdough! I have never made this before, so when Kylie came home with a recipe and Isabella was all over it, we had to do it, that’s right, it wasn’t negotiable. We all had fun making it and putting it into the Activity Kits. Plus, we used this as a practice run so we could make a fresh batch again right before Thanksgiving.
Homemade Playdough Ingredients:
- 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Cup Water
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 Teaspoon Cream of Tartar
- 2/3 Cup Salt
- 1 or 2 Kool-Aid Packets
Homemade Playdough Directions:
Mix all of your ingredients except for Kool-Aid packets into a pot.
Next mix the ingredients well and then mix in your Kool-Aid packet
Now the mixture will look very funky.
Place the pot onto your stove burner at about a medium-high heat.
I did this so the kids could do the stirring and not stress about it getting too hot to ruin the mixture.
The dough will thicken up as it cooks the play dough will smooth out as it cooks up, just keep stirring!
I used a bamboo spoon to flip the dough around in the pot while it was cooking.
Put your playdough on a plate to cool off
Separate and store! You can easily put this in Ziploc® brand containers and Ziploc® brand bags. We cut the balls in half and put them in the quart storage bags for the activity kits.
Do you make homemade playdough? What do you use Ziploc® brand containers and Ziploc® brand bags for during the holidays?
Look how well these stack for easy transportation and storage!

These are such cute and great ideas! I know it’s hard to keep our kids entertained at holiday dinners sometimes, so this is very helpful.

This post makes me miss having little kids around. I know that my older kids will still enjoy play-doh but the activity packages aren’t for their age. Oh perhaps I can use this for a gathering with my toddler niece!

This is such a great idea! I can’t count how much money I have spent on play dough over the years and now that I am babysitting my Godson… this would be a great activity for us and will keep him occupied doing something positive and fun!

I love this idea of activity kits for kids to do during the holidays. I’m a homeschooling mom of two boys and I’m constantly on the lookout for activities my kids can do that gets them off the computer. This is great!

We recently made our own batch of Playdoh (and slime) and it was so much fun! I think making it was more fun than playing with it after!
