I absolutely hate doing laundry as I am sure most people do. With everyone in the house, it is a chore that is boring and simply takes too much time. However, there are some useful ways in which you can save time on laundry. With several members of the family being athletes our laundry piles up fast and can be so overwhelming to get done. (I have included links to some great products that can make your life easier. You can buy them through my online sales links.)
Now with how much laundry we end up with staying aware of what needs to be done can be half the hassle. As the kids have gotten older they have their own designated day which has made a world of difference in my time load for getting the laundry done. Now whether or not they stay on top of that is all the difference.
Sort easily– You don’t want to spend all kinds of time sorting clothes on laundry day. Instead, use colored baskets or hampers to make sorting a breeze. Use a white one for whites, a red one for darks, and a yellow one for light colors.

Multitask– When you are doing laundry, tackle some other small tasks at the same time so you get twice as much done. If you are baking something in the oven, this gives you time to toss some stuff in the washer or time to fold and put away laundry. If you are watching a television program, load the clothes into the washer or dryer when the commercials come on. Each load of laundry takes about 30 minutes to wash, which is enough time to sweep and mop the floors.
Delegate laundry tasks– If you have kids, you can give them laundry chores based on their ages. Preschool-aged children can put clothes away after they have been folded. Elementary aged kids can fold as well as put away clothes. Older children can handle all aspects of laundry.
Clean washer and dryer– By keeping your washer and dryer clean, they will run more efficiently. You want to clean them both once a month. However, be sure to clean the lint trap in the dryer after each and every load. Seriously how did we get along before Amazon?? You can order Washer cleaner and dryer cleaning tools right off the site and it’s at your home in 2 days our Amazon Prime. (Don’t have Prime? You NEED for easy online shopping!!) Plus keeping your dryer cleaned out makes it safer and less of a fire hazard as well!

Wash towels and sheets alone– Towels are heavy so they will take longer to dry than other clothes. Sheets are large and may get other clothes tangled up in them. Wash the sheets and pillowcases and then put them right back onto the bed so there is no folding and putting away involved.
What are tips you have for ways to save time on laundry?

I already wash my towels separately. I also wash everything in cold water.

I think we could all use some help getting laundry done. Thanks for the tips! I like to fold/put away all at once to help avoid wasted time of repeatedly folding loads and putting them away. It seems to really help streamline our process!

We put the kids’ clothes, folded, on their kitchen chairs, so they have to put them away.

I love making use of the “wasted” time. I often will fold the laundry while cooking dinner. (visiting from This is How We Roll)

I only have two laundry baskets in the house – before when we had 5 the folded laundry would be parked in the hallways and not be put away. Now we make ourselves put it right away with only two baskets to hold it in 🙂

This is great post, thanks. It totally reminds me I need to go and get a load on! I am lucky enough to work freelance from home so I usually spend my breaks tackling a household chore or two, which makes it a bit more manageable, but I really used to struggle when I worked in an office! Who wants to do laundry when they get home? Great idea to fit it into ad breaks etc.
