Tips To Stay On Track While Eating At A Buffet:
Never go when you are hungry- If you think that by skipping breakfast, you will be hungrier for the lunch buffet, you are probably right. However, this will do nothing but make you engage in binge-eating. You will also probably not make the best food choices when you are hungry either. If you are heading to the buffet for lunch, be sure to eat a light breakfast. If you are going for dinner, eat a light breakfast as well as a light lunch.
Sit away from the buffet spread- The further that you are from the food, the less tempted you will be to get up and make numerous trips to the food spread. Many times, we don’t want to make the effort of getting up from our seat and walk across the room to get that piece of cake we wanted. You also want to sit in a chair that faces away from the food.
Drink water before getting your food- Before you head up to the buffet line, drink a glass of water first. You can even do this before you leave your house. This will fill up your belly so you are less likely to grab one of everything from the buffet spread.
Load up on the veggies- Most vegetables have very few calories, depending on what they are cooked in. Choose steamed veggies since these are cooked in water rather than butter or oil. The labels will indicate what they are. For instance, they should say steamed carrots or steamed cauliflower.
Choose foods that are lean protein- Choose lean protein meats such as lean cuts of beef like a leg, loin and round. Also, look for skinless and boneless chicken breast as well as grilled fish. Other great sources of protein include whole grains, beans, and lentils.
Pick your dessert wisely- You may or may not have room in your belly for some dessert. The last thing you want to do is pile a plate full of sweets. Choose one or two options you like the most. You should choose a dessert that is fruit based, if possible.
