Summer in our house means go, go, go, go, and go some more with three active kids! It truthfully can feel like we are almost never home during the summer. With soccer, hiking, scouts, summer camps, beach trips, and mini stay cations we are always heading off somewhere in our car!
One thing that has always helped to save my sanity during the summer months is being prepared for anything. I can’t tell you how many times we end up some were longer then expect or someone completely soaks or messes up an outfit. I have learned to pack the back of my minivan wisely. I have developed a great system that is easy to maintain and it has saved me quite a few times from having to buy more things while we are on the go. We have the big family container that always is stocked and ready to go for summer fun
This bin has saved me from so many mishaps while we are out and about. I keep my pack list right on the top of the bin so I know exactly what I want in there. If we use something out of the bin it gets unloaded when we get home so it can be restocked. You can print off the list as well to help set up your own! Head on over -> here to print yours!
Beach Towels- It seems the kids like to “impromptu” swim in lakes and creeks when we are out hiking.
Clothes- Between the impromptu swimming we also end up with dirty outfits from dirt or food. We keep a sundress for each of the girls and then a short set for the boys.
Cash- Sometimes you run into little places traveling that won’t take cards or even a random ice cream truck at the park. I always put the small bills in my socks that are in with my clothes.
Flip Flops- I keep a cheap $1 pair of flip-flops in the bin for each person. These can easily double for water play shoes or to be able to slip on after getting your hiking shoes muddy.
Insurance Cards And Paperwork- These gets slipped into the plastic bag on the lid but this way I know where everything is. I also will put in addresses and print off of directions if we are going somewhere without cell service.
Water Bottles, Snacks, And Sports Drinks- While the liquids might get warm its better than having nothing when you are out and about. We always keep nonchocolate snacks in the car; this is very frugal compared to stopping at a fast food restaurant or gas station when kids get hungry.
Sunscreen And Bug Spray- We are always reapplying so it’s helpful to know there are extras in the car. Plus if you run out while you are out and about it’s expensive to buy on the go.
What do you do to stay on the go summer fun ready in your car?
